Bathroom Renovation Week 4: Construction and Design Concept
Week four of the Fall Renovation Challenge is here! I thought you may want to see little more than a drywalled bathroom (I know I sure do!- haha). So, I decided to put together a presentation board with some images of our finishes. Can you visualize it now? I sure can! :)
Bathroom design has come a long way in recent years, in my opinion. It seems the DIY’er has access to so much more than we did in the past, thanks to things like Pinterest and Amazon. This makes being a home decorator a lot more fun and exciting, but it can also be overwhelming.
So how do you narrow down the choices? Before starting any renovation or decorating project, I think it’s important to understand how you want to express who you are as an individual or as a family. Do you like things that are simple, or appreciate more ornate and decorative pieces? Do you like to stay on trend and change it up frequently, or do you rarely make changes and prefer to choose a look that will last a decade or more?
For big tickets items (like couches) or anything permanent (like countertops and floors) we like to play it a little safer, sticking to neutral colors and making selections that will stand the test of time. Then we have fun with color in our artwork and accessories. We love to collect vintage/vintage inspired advertising posters to places we have been. We have several throughout our home.
Our overall vibe is sort of mid-century modern meets casual beach house. I call it Atomic Beach House (Is that a thing?). Given the location and exterior style of our townhome, we felt it would be best to avoid going too modern in our finishes. But at the same time, we like a little personality.
But before I get too carried away talking about all the design elements in our bathroom, its time for a reality check. Rough in electrical and plumbing is complete. drywall is up, and “we” (aka my husband) are almost done mudding, taping, and waterproofing. Tile will start to go up in the next few days! So next week, there will be some fun progress pictures to share!
